There are a number of ways to record audio and use it for projects in your classroom. Many computers and laptops have internal microphones that are pretty decent. Some companies make inexpensive microphones for computers that are really great. Headsets that are used for Skype can be repurposed to record audio. Also students can get creative with cellphones and digital cameras, many of which have audio and video recording capability. In addition, Belkin and Griffin are two companies that make mics that work with an Ipod. These are relatively inexpensive and a great way to do interviews using your existing equipment, in this case an Ipod.
There are a number of good digital recorders out there if you find yourself interested in podcasting and audio recording. Sony and Olympus make a number of digital recorders that retail for around fifty dollars. Be sure to make sure any recorder you buy can connect to your computer and isn’t just a voice memo tool. Also make sure that your recorder exports in a format that is compatible with your computer system, some recorders only work with PCs or only export in a windows media format. Be sure to consider battery life, recording quality and formats. If you’re ready to upgrade, there are lots of options and you can find the best one for your needs with a little research. Good luck!
