Recap of Kick Off Event

Over 25 youth media arts educators gathered at our inaugural event this past Tuesday to discuss the issues of our field.

We began the evening with our featured curriculum presenter, Chris Gaines, who explained his approach to introducing storyboarding using the Mac program, Comic Life. He explained that the storyboard-to-comic strip curriculum allows the students to complete a project in less time than it would take to fully complete the film, helping the students achieve a sense of accomplishment early on. [For those of you who were unable to attend the event, you can find Chris's curriculum through the "curricula" page.]

After the presentation we took a spin on the website and got introduced to some of the features that might help us work together as a community.

We ended the evening discussing upcoming projects, copyright issues, and potential collaborations.

The tentative date for our next gathering is November 18th, 2008, so mark your calendars! And in the meantime, please poke around on our site, add curriculum and events, and help us to continue to build our community by pointing your friends and colleagues to our website.

Hi everyone! Sorry I was unable to attend. I was in Europe on a trip with students and assisted in keeping up the blog there (you can check it out at http://tbafhao.edublogs.org). I just got introduced to Comic Life and hadn't thought of using it as a storyboard app - thats great! I struggle every year to get the kids engaged and feeling confident about the storyboard process. Thanks! Im looking forward to the next meeting but hope we can keep in touch. Cheers, Lisa
